Students with a strong vocational orientation, including those planning to undertake traineeships and apprenticeships may benefit from the flexibility of combining school, TAFE and Workplace Learning. The Work Links program combines 3 days per week school attendance with one day a week in TAFE and one day a week in Workplace Learning, or two days in Workplace Learning. Enrolment in Work Links also ensures students enrol in VET units, delivered as an Australian Quality Training (AQTF) Certificate and Workplace Learning.

Entry into the Work Links Program is by interview to be conducted by the Work Links staff.
Students in Year 11 study the following subjects / Courses of Study at school (there is NO choice):
- English 1A and 1B
- Career and Enterprise 1A 1B
- 1A and 1B Mathematics
- 1A and 1B Applied Information Technology
- Certificate I in Business
- 1A and 1B Workplace Learning
The Work Links Program at Kalamunda SHS can include the School Apprenticeship Link (SAL). The SAL is intended as a transition from school to an apprenticeship. It provides an introduction into the apprenticeship opportunities within various trades.
It is anticipated that the following industry areas will be available through the School Apprenticeship Link:
· Automotive (heavy & light vehicle, auto body refinishing & repair , auto electrical)
· Building & Construction (wall & floor tiling, bricklaying, carpentry & joinery, ceiling fixing, plastering)
· Food (cooking, pastry cook, bread baking)
· Horticulture (landscaping, nursery, turf , gardening)
· Furniture Trades (cabinet making, furniture finishing , upholstery)
· Metals and Engineering (plant, fabrication and mechanical fitting)
· Personal Services (hairdressing, beauty/make-up, retail)

The selection process for SAL is by a separate application form that will be given to you at your interview along with the selection criteria. The Work Links program can also incorporate a School Based Traineeship. School Based Traineeships provide the opportunity for senior secondary students to start a traineeship whilst also completing the WACE. In this situation, as well as participating in the 3 day school program, students are in paid employment for 2 days in a variety of industry based work places. It is anticipated that students completing the Year 11 Work Links program will be ready to engage in an option other than schooling, according to their individual interests. This may be a traineeship, an apprenticeship in their chosen trade or full time employment. Students wishing to remain at school to achieve WACE may choose Year 12 courses or subjects from the senior school grid. Ongoing assistance and guidance will be given to Year 11 Work Links students in order to find suitable placements to meet their individual needs.
