 Mathematics Minimize

The Kalamunda Senior High School Mathematics Department is focussed on fostering an appreciation of Mathematics not only as a powerful tool for problem-solving, but as a discipline in its own right.

A student will be encouraged to apply their mathematical skills to a wide variety of situations in a logically consistent manner and to present their solutions and findings in an orderly literate format.  (Policies and Guidelines)

The Department is fortunate in that it has an excellent staff of experienced and innovative teachers. (Mathematics Staff).

Since its establishment in 1959 the Kalamunda Senior High School Mathematics Department has been part of the learning experience of many of our current trades-people, scientists, engineers and doctors.  Ex- Kalamunda students are now lawyers, fighter pilots and have worked on such international projects as the Hubble telescope.

The philosophy of the Department has always been to encourage our students to strive to achieve their “personal best” and to produce work for which they can feel justifiably proud.  Whilst there is an emphasis on encouraging the student into suitable pathways for their abilities and career aspirations we do not discourage students from striving towards more ambitious goals.

Our Lower School Programs are designed to prepare the students for work or TAFE or the Upper School Mathematics Courses.  The design of all these courses has been determined by the demands of national numeracy testing such as NAPLAN and the Curriculum Council guidelines in place in Western Australia.

The Department is currently investing time and money in extending the range of learning technologies it can offer students.  By broadening the instructional opportunities in mathematics available to students a greater variety of learning programs will be available to meet the individual needs of Kalamunda High School students.
